Color Blocking Die: Celebrate

If you followed along during Lil' Inker Designs February release, you might have seen the video I made (you can view it HERE) showing some ways to use the new Color Blocking die that I've fallen in love with.  There was one technique that I shared and I wasn't sure if I explained it well enough so I am coming back today to share some pictures on how to easily do the technique using the die.

First, let me share the card with you that I'll be creating.

Jen Carter LID Color Block Die Celebrate

Like one of the cards I showed in the video, I also used the Cover Up Die: Diamond Lace on this card.  I love the lines in it and it works so well with the color blocking die.  I only used one cut of the die for this card but it makes putting this card together so simple and getting exactly the right cut (and that great finished edge!) each time.

Jen Carter LID Color Block Die 1

So to start, I lined up my washi tape with one of the dotted lines cut into the cardstock.  For this card I want my patterned paper to line up with the line of holes that is under the washi (so basically these larger holes will be covered with the paper once it is cut).

Jen Carter LID Color Block Die 2

I put my patterned paper right on top of the blue cardstock so that I can see the washi tape ends peeking out.

I line the die up with the top edge of the washi tape.  I found post-it note tape holds the die in place nicely.

I ran the paper and die through my die cut machine, removed the tape and voila! the piece is cut exactly where I needed it to be.

Here is the finished card again.  I die cut the heart with the Sweet Celebrations die set (matching stamp set can be found here).  I also die cut the Celebrate Word Die a couple of times, adhered them together and then attached them to the card.

For my heart, I didn't want it hanging over the side without any support so I cut it in half and adhered half to the patterned paper and then adhered the other half to the cardstock.

I'm going to enter this in the Sunday Stamps Challenge to use the colors scheme below.

I'm also entering this card in the Stick it Down Challenge to use the provided sketch.

Thanks for joining me today!

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #396

Welcome to the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #396!  This week the challenge is to use a cat theme on your card.  All of the details, including prize information, can be found on the Cupcakes Inspiration blog.  I hope you'll be able to play along!  This week our sponsor is Newton's Nook Designs.

CIC396 Jen Carter Cat Talk 1

I stamped the cat from Lil' Inker Designs new Stamp Talk stamp set and colored her in with my copic markers.  I stamped one of the sentiments from the stamp set repeatedly on my cardstock, masking off the edges with post-it note tape.  For the sentiment at the bottom, I die cut the smallest Pinking Edge Sentiment Flag Die Set in vellum.  Then I cut a piece of green paper with a die from the Dual Dotted Border Builder set and placed it on top of the vellum with foam tape.

To create the patterned paper background, I used the Color Blocking die which I love!  You can see a video on how this simple but genius die works, here.

The theme this week is "cats".  You can choose to use the cupcake graphic for inspiration if you'd like but you don't have to, as long as your card or project fits the theme.

I hope you'll join us this week for the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #396!  Thanks for stopping by!

Jen Carter Sweet Celebration 1 wm vs2

I started this card by die cutting the fabulous Quilted Stitched So Sunny die which adds such beautiful detail.  I used a new stamp set called Sweet Celebration which is gorgeous.  I LOVE the different layers to stamp the flowers!  And that heart wreath is so pretty too and I really like the size of it!  I die cut the flowers and wreath with the coordinating Sweet Celebration dies.  For the sentiment I die cut the new Celebrate Word Die.  The fonts used for this release are awesome, aren't they!?  I really like the font for "celebrate"!

All of the products used for this card are shown below.

Jen Carter Bunny Buddies Coolness 5 wm

This bunny...oh my, isn't he so cute?  And he has a partner in crime too that I didn't use on this card, but you must check out the entire set called Bunny Buddies Die Stamp Bundle here!  I stamped him on a panel that I had die cut with the Wonky Rectangles dies that I seem to pull out quite often and then colored him with copics.  I stamped the sentiment also from the bundle and embossed it with white on black cardstock.  This set is great for masculine cards!

Jen Carter Rustic Spring Brush Script  Spring Blessed 1 wm

My last card today features a few new dies and the Rustic Spring stamp set I showcased yesterday.  First, let's talk about the background.  I used the new (GENIUS!) die called the Color Blocking Die to create the background.  I pieced three pieces of patterned paper perfectly together to make a fun mix & match background.  On the green/white & yellow striped pieces I also used the Quilted Stitched So Sunny Die to cut those cute little sunshines into the paper which added more dimension.  I created a video on ways to use this die with a tip on an easy way to get all of your patterned papers lined up every time.

The best tip I can give you is to cut all of your papers at the same time when you use the Color Blocking Die die (thank you Chrissy Larson for sharing this game changing tip!!).  This ensures that all of your angles are the same and you can then easily line up the papers on your card.  Also when you do this, you'll have enough pieces to make 2 - 3 cards using the leftovers!

For the main image, I die cut the vellum mat with the Stitched Mats Rectangles dies. I also die cut & embossed the houses & tree from the new Rustic Spring Stamp set and the previously released Rustic Christmas sets (they have matching die sets too that you can see here).  I used my palette watercolors to color the houses and the tree and used foam tape to pop them up.  I die cut the new gorgeous "Blessed" die which is one of three dies in the Brush Script Spring die set.

Don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to win!

Jen Carter Rustic Spring Sweet Celebration 8 wm

I combined several new products to put this card together.  I first die cut the heart wreath with the Sweet Celebration dies.  I wanted a colored background so I die cut it a second time to get the peach cardstock in the center.  The flowers were die cut and then stamped with the Sweet Celebrations Stamp set.   This is my favorite LID flower set yet!  I LOVE all of the options of ways to stamp these flowers and the details are gorgeous!

Jen Carter Rustic Spring Sweet Celebration 3 wm

I die cut the sweet bunny with the Rustic Springs die set and then stamped her with the Rustic Spring stamp set which is a follow up to the popular Rustic Christmas stamp set.    I colored the bunny with my Zig Real Brush markers.  The banner & sentiment are also included in the setsLastly, I die cut the Celebrate Word Die three times and stacked them together for dimension (isn’t the font for that die awesome!).

Jen Carter Cat Treats 4 wm

My second card was such a fun one to put together and these cats are adorable!  I first stamped my background with the BFF & hearts stamps that are in the Cat Treats Stamp Set.  I made sure to center one of the BFF's right above where I planned to place my cats.  I then die cut the cat friends with the Cat Treats Die Set, stamped the coordinating images and colored them with copics.  I adhered them to my card with an action wobbler and then colored in the BFF & hearts to match the cats and highlight the sentiment.

Below is a video that shows the cats in motion and wobbling.

It's such an easy way to make a card interactive!

PTI Year 2013

I have another card to share for PTI's Anniversary.  This one is celebrating stamps released in 2013.

Jen Carter City Scape PTI Hello

I loved this City Scene stamp set and was fortunate enough to be able to borrow it from a friend recently to put this card together.  I realized how detailed this set was as I started to stamp.  It was a lot of work but I like how it turned out!  The stitched mat is from this die set from Lil' Inker Designs.

Hugs

Jen Carter Spiral Bouquet Hugs 1

I have one more card for the PTI Celebration.  This one using the set Spiral Bouquet.  I stamped the flowers on a piece of white cardstock and adhered it to a small panel that I also attached a die cut hugs on from the Big Hugs die set.  The patterned paper is from the Simple Stories Love & Adore paper pack.

Thanks for visiting!

Thank you Berry Much!

Hello! I wanted to play along a little with PTI's 10th Anniversary challenges.  This challenge was to use a set released during PTI's first year in business.  I chose Green Thumb which is the set that made me fall in love with PTI!  I loved all of the separate elements that the set had and how easy it made stamping the different pieces to an image with different colored inks.

Jen Carter Green Thumb Thanks 2

I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to color the strawberries on the stamp and then sprayed the stamp with a fine mist of water before stamping on watercolor paper.  The frame is die cut with the A2 Noted die set.  And the cute little frame is from the Tag Sale #10 die.

Thanks for stopping by!

CIC394 Jen Carter Balloon Hugs 1

For my card I started with a patterned paper that is one of my all time favorites! I wish I had a stack of just this one pattern (sadly, this was my last piece)!  I die cut the red balloons from Lil' Inker Designs Love You More Hearts & Balloon Die Set.  I 💖💗 this set!  I also die cut the strings from this set as well.  The Hugs was die cut several times and then glued together.  This die comes from the LID Brush Script Valentines Day Word Dies, which is another new favorite die set!

To finish the card off and to add that little pop like you see on top of the cupcakes, I used little white matte finished enamel dots.

Here is the challenge color scheme.  You can use the photo for inspiration but you don't have to, as long as you use the provided color scheme. I hope you'll join us this week for the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #394!  Thanks for stopping by!
